In today's dynamic world, the shift from traditional in-person training to eLearning has become necessary for businesses adapting to remote work and changing learning landscapes. As a seasoned learning strategist with 18 years of experience, I have firsthand knowledge of the challenges of this transformation.
In today’s article, we’ll explore some practical tips on how to convert in-person content into compelling eLearning experiences.
Understand your audience
Start by completing an audience analysis to understand your audience's preferences and learning styles. Identify the demographics, job roles, and prior knowledge that your learners have. Understanding this information will help you tailor your eLearning content effectively.
And remember that just because it’s a business course, doesn’t mean that you have to use a stuffy business voice. Using a conversational tone keeps your learners engaged and makes them feel like they’re being guided through a digital journey.
Leverage multimedia elements
One of the advantages of eLearning is the ability to incorporate multimedia elements. Enhance your content with videos, infographics, and interactive quizzes.
These not only break the monotony but also appeal to various learning preferences. Consider adding personal anecdotes or real-world examples to make the content relatable and memorable. 📹
Chunk information for digestibility
Break down content into smaller, easily digestible chunks. This helps learners grasp information more efficiently and facilitates better retention. Each chunk should focus on a specific concept or skill, allowing learners to progress at their own pace. Consider this approach a virtual learning buffet where participants can choose what they want to consume, when they want to consume it, and how often. 🍲
Encourage collaboration and interaction
Foster a sense of community among learners by incorporating collaborative elements. Forums, discussion boards, and group projects create opportunities for interaction, simulating the engaging environment of in-person sessions. Use your experience as a corporate learning and development specialist to emphasize the importance of peer-to-peer learning in the virtual realm.🧑🤝🧑
Optimize content for mobile learning
Mobile phones, tablets, and even digital watches are huge parts of our daily lives. As learning strategists, we’d be remiss not to recognize this and acknowledge that learners want access to learning on the go – not just at their desktop computers. 📱
It’s important to ensure that your eLearning content is mobile-friendly – responsive and accessible on various devices. This flexibility empowers learners to engage with the material at their convenience.
